Australian hydro producer honored for good works

Australian utility Snowy Hydro Limited has been awarded an Australian Business Award for Community Contribution in 2012.

This year marks the third consecutive year Snowy Hydro has won the award in the industrial category.

"This award recognizes significant work done in improving mutual understanding and support in the community," says David Hogan, manager of Snowy Hydro's public relations and community affairs.

Hogan says the company emphasized its Community Partnerships Program in this year's entry, which includes Snowy Hydro's efforts in promoting and supporting health and safety, education, pediatric cancer research, young driver training and other projects.

"These types of accolades don't come easily," says Tara Johnston, Program Director for the Australian Business Awards. "They are underpinned by vision and leadership, both of which require a clear dedication to research and development."

Snowy Hydro operates a total of nine hydropower stations, whose 33 turbines have combined generating capacity of 3,950 MW.
