Indian utility commissions last unit at 231-MW Chamera-III hydroelectric complex

HIMACHAL PRADESH, India 7/9/12 (PennWell) -- India's National Hydroelectric Power Corporation has commissioned the last of three units at its 231-MW Chamera-III hydropower plant.

The run-of-river plant sits upstream on the Ravi River from NHPC's 300-MW Chamera-II project and includes three 77-MW turbine units.

NHPC says the power generated by the Chamera-III plant will increase the company’s total installed capacity to more than 5,525 MW.

HydroWorld.com reported recently that NHPC is also working to finish its 800-MW Parbati 2 and 520-MW Parbati 3 projects -- both of which are also located in Himachal Pradesh.
