Gulf Group awarded contract for work at Sardis Dam

The U.S. Corps of Engineers has awarded Gulf Group Inc. a contract worth US$1.78 million for flood control civil works at Sardis Dam in Mississippi.

The Corps' Vicksburg District most recently sought bids for the work in June, which includes the partial reconstruction of toe ditch pervious concrete pavement. Work will also include the removal of concrete, excavation, construction of pervious concrete pavement and concrete paved flumes, furnishing and placing engineering fabric, control of water, turf maintenance, environmental protection, and stormwater pollution prevention.

The dam, which is located at Sardis Lake on the Little Tallahatchie River, does not have a hydropower component. However, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission granted a preliminary permit to Hydro Green Energy LLC in 2007 to study a project that would use both conventional and hydrokinetic technologies.
