Colorado's Lily Lake Dam to be repaired

ESTES PARK, Colo. 6/15/12 (PennWell) -- Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park will repair the Lily Lake Dam instead of removing it after it was determined the dam was needed for the park to retain water rights.

The discussion was started after the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation rated Lily Lake Dam as a "high-hazard" dam, although it is not considered to be in imminent danger of failing. Reclamation says that until repairs are completed, however, that it must be regularly inspected and monitored.

Repairs are expected to being this fall and will be funded by the National Park Service's Dam Safety Program.
