Vietnam's A Luoi hydropower plant producing power

THUA THIEN-HUE PROVINCE, Vietnam 5/24/12 (PennWell) -- Vietnam's A Luoi hydroelectric plant began producing power earlier this week with the installation of the 170-MW facility's first turbine.

The turbine is the first of two for the US$155.5 million complex, which has been under construction since 2007.
Owner Central Hydropower Joint Stock Co. announced that Cavico Corp. broke through A Luoi's final section of tunnel in April 2011.

The second turbine is expected to come online by the end of this year.
