U.K. announces ocean power capital grant scheme

LONDON 4/16/12 (PennWell) -- The United Kingdom will fund up to two pre-commercial ocean power devices as part of its US$32 million Marine Energy Array Demonstrator Scheme, with a deadline of April 20 to register for a pre-submission briefing.

A release from the U.K.'s Department of Energy and Climate Change says all applications must be submitted before June 1, 2012, for consideration. DECC says the project is part of the U.K.'s ongoing effort to increase its percentage of energy gained through renewable sources.

The entries selected by MEAD will be supported from the single device prototype stage to the full-scale phase, DECC says, and must be expected to operate for a minimum of two years.

For a full list of application requirements and for a proposal entry form, visit DECC's website here.

Those chosen to participate will be notified in late 2012 or early 2013.
