    03/07/2012

NASHVILLE, Tenn. 3/7/12 (PennWell) -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Nashville District has awarded a contract worth US$829,000 to Ostrom Painting & Sandblasting Inc. for repairs and painting at the 130-MW Barkley Dam.

The Corps last called for bids for the work in January 2012.

As per the contract, the Barkley hydroelectric project includes a spillway made of 12 tainter steel gates -- each of which is 50 feet tall by 55 feet wide and mounted on concrete spillway piers.

Ostrom is responsible for replacing some of the worst of the tainter gates' bent members, repairing rusted web stiffeners, repairing cracked weld connections and painting the repaired surface areas.

Other repair work is being performed at Barkley, including rewinding generator No. 1.
