JAKARTA, Indonesia, 3/5/12 (PennWell) -- State-owned utility PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) has signed agreements to purchase power from 130 small hydropower plants, sources report.
Combined, the energy generated would equate to a capacity around 260-MW and most of the facilities would be located outside Java Island.
Muhammed Sofyan, PLC's renewable energy division head, said the company's goal is to produce an additional 12,000-MW of hydroelectric power by 2025. Of that amount, Sofyan says 65% will be built by PLN, while the remainder will be constructed by independent power providers.
PLN identified 96 sites for potential hydropower development earlier this year.
