QUICHE, Guatemala 3/19/12 (PennWell) -- Enel Green Power announces its 85-MW Palo Viejo hydroelectric plant has been connected to the national grid.

The US$200 million project was supported by public-private finance institution Simest, which promotes the international development of Italian enterprises.

EGP says Palo Viejo's completion increases its Guatemalan portfolio to five hydroelectric plants, which combine for a total capacity of 161 MW. In all, EGP's total installed capacity in Latin America is more than 750 MW.

The Enel Group announced that it had contracted Israel's Solel Boneh International to plan and construct the project in January 2009.
