GRAZ/VIENNA, Austria 3/21/12 (PennWell) -- Energy supplier Kalehan Enerji Uretim ve Ticaret A.S. has awarded a contract to a consortium led by Andritz Hydro for work at the 560-MW Beyhan-1 hydroelectric plant.
The hydropower facility will be built on the River Murat in eastern Turkey and is expected to be commissioned in mid-2015, according to Andritz.
The international technology group is to supply three Francis turbine-generator units, transformers, switchgear and electrical equipment, as per the US$58.2 million contract. The company says its three turbine units will be the largest of their kind ever installed in Turkey.
Beyhan-1 is the first of four hydropower plants Kalehan Enerji is currently planning for the River Murat. The group previously awarded a contract to Finland's Poyry for design services.
