VIENNA, Austria 2/23/12 (PennWell) – Luz del Sur has awarded a contract to Andritz Hydro to supply electromechanical equipment for the 98.5-MW Santa Teresa hydroelectric project in Peru.

The underground powerhouse, with a water head of 188 meters, will use the tailwater from the nearby Machu Picchu hydro facility. The project is in the Urubamba Valley of the Cusco region.

The scope of Andritz Hydro’s supply includes design engineering, delivery, installation and commissioning of two Francis turbines, governors, generators and protection and control systems.

In November 2011, Luz del Sur chose a consortium of Italy’s Astaldi SpA and GyM-Grana y Montero S.A. of Peru to construct Santa Teresa and the 510-MW Cerro del Aguila project

Luz del Sur was awarded the contract for construction of the Santa Teresa plant by ProInversion, Peru’s state agency for promoting private investment, in 2010.

Commissioning of this project is scheduled for mid-2014.
