
CHAMBERY, France 11/23/11 (PennWell) -- Electricite de France (EDF) seeks bids for three lots to rehabilitate concrete damaged by alkali-aggregate reaction at Chambon Dam on the Romanche River in eastern France. Bids in separate solicitations are due December 6.
Chambon is a 90-meter-tall, 293-meter-long concrete gravity dam in France's Isere Department, a high-altitude region subject to severe winter weather. EDF is replacing or rehabilitating concrete that has expanded and cracked due to alkali-aggregate reaction. (HRW July 2010)
EDF seeks bids for three separate lots:
o Lot 1, reference No. rfi 53911: reinforcement of the monolith at the top of the dam using pre-stressed anchors, containing the upstream area with carbon-fiber fabric, and patching of the downstream face;
o Lot 2, reference No. rfi 53975: concrete sawing seven vertical slits at the top of the dam from 11 to 16 millimeters, the two highest measuring 42 meters, for a total surface sawed of 2,500 square meters;
o Lot 3, reference No. rfi 53964: removal of upstream waterproofing membrane and installation of a new membrane after construction.
The three lots are expected to require from 27 to 28 months each.
