BANJA LUKA, Bosnia and Herzegovina 10/05/11 (PennWell) -- Elektroprivreda Republike Srpske a.d. Trebinje, has awarded a contract to a Croatian-Bosnian consortium to build an additional spillway for control of flood discharges from the 110-MW Bocac hydroelectric project in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Elektroprivreda, the electric utility of Bosnia's Serb Republic, took bids for the work in May.
Elektroprivreda awarded the 8.2 million mark (US$5.6 million) contract to Konstruktor-Inzinjering dd of Split, Croatia, and Integral Inzinjering a.d. Laktasi of Banja Luka. The consortium was chosen from among four bidders.
Konstruktor and Integral are to carry out excavation and concrete works for an open air lateral spillway and tunnel sections as well as establishment of a technical monitoring system for the facilities. The work is to require 18 months.
The European Investment Bank approved a 103 million euro (US$150 million) loan to Bosnia and Herzegovina for rehabilitation of hydroelectric plants and electricity distribution systems. Elektroprivreda and two other regional utilities in Bosnia recruited consultants in 2007 to assist in dam safety and rehabilitation work at several hydroelectric projects including the additional spillway at Bocac.
