  • Alstom to supply hydroelectric equipment for projects in Brazil and Peru

    BRASILIA, Brazil and HUANUCO, Peru 9/26/11 (PennWell) - Alstom, in a consortium with Brazilian engineering companies CESBE and Areva Koblitz, was awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract worth $418.5 million to provide power equipment for the 373.4 MW Santo Antonio do Jari hydroelectric plant in Brazil. The plant is owned by Consorcio Amapa Energia.

    Alstom will supply Kaplan hydro power turbines and generators, hydromechanical equipment, lifting equipment, digital control system (DCS), engineering works, erection, supervision and commissioning for the three units. The plant is expected to be commissioned in late 2014.

    Alstom was also awarded a $108 million contract to provide equipment for the 450 MW Chaglla hydroelectric dam in Peru.

    In Peru, Alstom will supply the complete electromechanical package for the project, which includes a powerhouse with two vertical Francis turbines of 225 MW each, generators and electrical and mechanical auxiliary systems. The scope of the contract includes power transformers and switchyard equipment provided by Alstom Grid, hydromechanical equipment, DCS, telecom and plant protection and a small hydro power plant.
