  • U.S. seeks repairs to nine Tennessee dams

    The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) seeks bids from small businesses to repair storm damages to nine dams in Tennessee. Bids in separate solicitations are due Sept. 6, 7, and 8.

    The Natural Resources Conservation Service, a unit of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, awarded $60 million in contracts in 2009 for professional services related to dam safety assessment, design, design review, and construction management.

    In the first of seven current solicitations, No. AG4741S110011, NRCS seeks bids by Sept. 6 for debris removal and repair of damaged areas of Jennings Creek Dam No. 15 in Jackson County, Tenn. The work is expected to require 213 days for a cost between $500,000 and $1 million. A site visit is scheduled Aug. 24.

    NRCS seeks bids by Sept. 7, No. AG4741S110009, for debris removal and repair of damaged spillways of Jennings Creek Dams No. 6 and 10 in Jackson County. The work is expected to require 72 days for a cost between $250,000 and $500,000. A site visit is scheduled Aug. 24.

    Bids are also due Sept. 7, No. AG4741S110010, for debris removal and repair of damaged spillways of Jennings Creek Dams No. 13 and 18 in Jackson County. NRCS said spillway outlet channels were severely damaged during a May 2010 flood. The primary portion of the work is to install a grouted rock riprap chute in the spillway outlet channel to stabilize the auxiliary spillway. The work is expected to require 99 days for a cost between $100,000 and $250,000. A site visit is scheduled Aug. 23.

    NRCS seeks bids by Sept. 7, No. AG4741S110008, for debris removal and repair of damaged spillways of Jennings Creek Dam No. 17 in Macon County, Tenn. The work is expected to require 36 days for a cost between $100,000 and $250,000. A site visit is scheduled Aug. 23.

    Bids are due Sept. 8, No. AG4741S110006, for debris removal and repair of damaged areas of Hurricane Creek Dam No. 9 in Humphreys County, Tenn. The dam has three main areas of work, the emergency spillway and berm drains, the impact drain, and the access road. The work is expected to require 53 days for a cost between $100,000 and $250,000. A site visit is scheduled Aug. 25.

    Bids are also due Sept. 8, No. AG4741S110007, for debris removal and repair of damaged spillways of Line Creek Dam No. 3B in Clay County, Tenn. The work is expected to require 160 days for a cost between $25,000 and $100,000. A site visit is scheduled Aug. 25.

    NRCS said it also expects to issue a solicitation about Aug. 23 for Solicitation No. AG4741S110013, for spillway repair of Jennings Creek Dam No. 3 in Jackson County. NRCS said spillway outlet channels were severely damaged during the May 2010 flood. The primary portion of the work is to install two grouted rock riprap chutes in the spillway outlet channels to stabilize the auxiliary spillways. The work is expected to require 98 days for a cost between $250,000 and $500,000. A bid date and a site visit are to be announced.
