Nicaragua's energy and mines ministry seeks bids for construction of the 1.548-MW Wiwili hydroelectric project in Jinotega Department. Bids are due Sept. 12.
The Ministerio de Energia y Minas has scheduled an optional site visit August 16, an optional meeting to discuss the bid document August 18, a deadline to submit questions August 24, and a deadline to request bid documents by noon September 8.
With funding from Norway and Switzerland via the United Nations Development Program, Nicaragua plans to develop small-scale hydropower in areas outside the national power grid. In the current solicitation, the ministry seeks bids for construction of civil works and supply of pipe for the small hydro project in the town of Wiwili, 270 kilometers from Managua. Work includes access roads, river diversion, dam, spillway, bottom discharge, intake, low-pressure pipe and penstock, surge tank, powerhouse, discharge channel, and electro-mechanical works in the dam and water intake.
Solicitation documents in hard copy and a CD of construction drawings may be obtained until noon September 8 from the address below for 300 cordobas (US$13.32). The documents also may be obtained free of charge from Nicaragua's tendering Internet site, www.nicaraguacompra.gob.ni, under the link Contrataciones Vigentes.
