JHP to equip Lewiston small hydropower plant in California

JHP & Associates Inc. has been awarded a contract by Trinity Public Utilities District to design and supply a complete water to wire system for their Lewiston hydro plant upgrade, the firm announced.

The two 1.1-MW Francis units will include turbine, generator, governor, brushless excitation, inlet valve, bifurcation, as well as the control system. The units will replace a 350-kW generator at the Lewiston Dam's Lewiston hydro plant, which is located near Weaverville, Calif.

Initial system design is under way to prepare drawings and specs for the civil design. The system is expected to be delivered within one year.

In other news, JHP has delivered two new turbine runners to Isabella Partners as replacements for the original two 8-MW vertical Francis units installed in 1989 at Isabella Dam, near Bakersfield, Calif.

The newly designed 1,686-mm runners have a much improved profile so that water can be more evenly distributed, therefore smoothing the water flow inside the runner, greatly reducing the potential for cavitation and increasing runner efficiency, JHP reported.

The installation is expected to begin this fall.

JHP & Associates is a turnkey equipment solution provider with its own engineering and designing capabilities in China for its clients in the hydro industry. Based in Valencia, Calif., JHP has been in business since 1998.
