  • Egehid breaks ground on Jiguey hydro project overhaul in Dominican Republic

Dominican Republic state hydropower generator Egehid has begun a project to overhaul the Jiguey hydro plant in San Cristobal province, wire services reported.

The hydropower plant has two 48-MW units but has operated with one unit for the last three years since storms Noel and Olga hit in November 2007.

Noberto Odebrecht and CPBO Dominicana will carry out the US$19.5 million, nine-month revamp, government information service CIG reported.

German consulting firm PDI designed the work and will help supervise the project, which will recover 25 percent of production.

Egehid, which belongs to state power holding company CDEEE, and a credit line from Banco de Reservas will finance the work.
