Work begins on Song Tranh No 4 hydropower project in Vietnam

Construction has started on the Song Tranh No. 4 hydropower project in the central province of Quang Nam, Vietnam, news agencies reported.

The US$76 million hydropower plant is one of the projects set out in the national power system development plan for the 2006-15 period.

The hydro development, located on the Tranh River, has a designed capacity of 48 MW and will be able to produce 196 million kWh per year, reports indicate.

The hydro plant's two turbines are expected to connect to the national grid in 2014.

In other news, the second of six 400-MW turbines at the Son La hydro project in Vietnam has begun operation.

The first turbine was connected to the national power grid in 2010.
