Turbine rehab contract awarded for Kremenchuk hydro project in Ukraine

Ukraine utility OJSC UkrHydroEnergo has awarded Ukraine-based OJSC Turboatom a USD 37.2 million contract to rehabilitate three turbines of the 686-MW Kremenchuk hydroelectric project.

UkrHydroEnergo announced plans in 2010 to seek bids to rehabilitate turbines at Kremenchuk (or Kremenchug). The World Bank approved a US$60 million loan in 2009 for rehabilitation of Kremenchuk and the 651-MW Dnipro 1, 661-MW Dnipro 2 (or Dnieprovska 1 and 2) projects. The work is part of ongoing hydro project rehabilitation funded by the World Bank.

The recently-awarded Turboatom contract includes design, manufacturing, installation and commissioning of three rehabilitated Kaplan turbines, including runner, runner servomotor, main shaft, turbine guide bearing, distributor, turbine head cover and bottom ring, distributor servomotors and runner chamber.
