Alstom announces reorganization, creates deputy CEO role

France's Alstom has launched a major reorganization, announcing changes that include a new split of its power businesses and the nomination of a deputy chief executive.

Alstom said its board has approved Chief Executive Officer Patrick Kron's proposal for a "major change" to the company's organization, due to take effect July 4.

Philippe Joubert, who has successfully led the recovery and the development of the Power sector, is appointed deputy chief executive officer.

The operational activities of the group, which were until now, split into three sectors (Power, Transport and Grid) will now be organized in four sectors:
Alstom Thermal Power
Alstom Renewable Power
Alstom Grid
Alstom Transport

The split of the current Power sector into two sectors, Thermal and Renewable, will allow the functioning of both entities to be simplified and to better address their specific markets, Alstom said.

Each of these four sectors will have a new president:

Jerome Pecresse, who leaves Imerys to join Alstom, is appointed president of the Alstom Renewable Power sector and executive vice president of Alstom. The new renewables sector has sales of around EUR2 billion (2010/11) and 10,000 employees. It covers hydro, wind and other renewable sources of energy.
