RusHydro to upgrade Rybinsk, Uglich hydropower plants by 2020

RusHydro plans to complete upgrading the main equipment at its Rybinsk and Uglich hydro plants by 2020, the company said in a statement.

As part of the upgrade, RusHydro has already reconstructed a second power unit at the Uglich hydro plant, after which the unit's capacity increased to 65 MW from the previous 10 MW. The upgrade was carried out by Austria's Voith Hydro and cost an estimated 34 million euros.

In June, RusHydro plans to start repairs and upgrades of the Uglich plant's first unit.

In addition, RusHydro started reconstruction projects at the Rybinsk hydropower plant and has signed a contract with power engineering company Power Machines to replace a second power unit at the plant. The value of the contract was not provided.

The Uglich and Rybinsk hydropower plants annually produce a total of around 1.2 billion kWh of electric power.

In other news, RusHydro plans to start building a pumped-storage hydropower plant in the Leningrad Region of Russia some time between September and November, wire services reported.
