Alaska House committee passes Susitna River dam and hydro project bill

A House committee has advanced plans for a proposed dam and hydro project on Alaska's Susitna River, Alaska media reported.

The bill would let the state's energy offices finance, build and own the proposed Watana dam, which would straddle the Susitna River between Anchorage and Fairbanks, local media reports indicate.

Five days are left  in the first session of the two-year Legislature for review of the measure by the full House and the Senate, the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported.

Recently, MWH has was awarded a contract for hydropower engineering services by the Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) to support the evaluation and development of hydropower projects along the Alaska Railbelt electrical grid.
