  • Feasibility studies for 6,100 MW Sao Luiz do Tapajos hydro plant in Brazil to be concluded in 2012

    03/23/2011

Feasibility studies for the 6,100-MW Sao Luiz do Tapajos hydropower plant will be concluded in May 2012, a spokesperson for Brazil's state-run utility holding group Eletrobras told wire services.

The Sao Luiz do Tapajos hydro plant will be the largest in the planned 10,600-MW Tapajos hydro complex, Business News Americas reported.

The complex will also include hydros Jatoba (2,300 MW), Cachoeira dos Patos (528 MW), Jamanxin (881 MW) and Cachoeira do Cai (802 MW), all of which will be built on the Tapajos River, in the Amazonian state of Para.

The plants will be tendered separately to avoid difficulties obtaining environmental licenses for the projects, Business News Americas reported previously.

In other news, Brazil's 334-MW Simplicio hydropower complex is more than 70 percent complete and is set to be concluded on time for inauguration in late August, a spokesperson for the Brazilian state-run power company Eletrobras Furnas told wire services.
