Brazilian utility sector regulator Aneel has authorized test operations at the 10-MW Caju small hydropower project, according to regulatory filings.
The Caju small hydro project, located in the Brazilian southern state of Santa Catarina, is owned by local power company Energisa.
Test operations will run for about 60 days, when the firm will submit the results to Aneel. After that, commercial operations will be authorized.
In a separate filing, Aneel also okayed test operations at the 21-MW Nova Aurora small hydro project. The hydro plant is located in the center-western state of Goias. It is owned by local firm Goias Sul Geracao de Energia.
In other news, EDP Energias do Brasil, the Brazilian holding company of Portuguese electricity group Energias de Portugal, has announced the acquisition of two small hydro projects in the mid-western state of Mato Grosso from local group Bertin.
In a statement, EDP said the plants have a combined generation capacity of 49.5 MW.
