Epsa secures US87 million for Cucuana hydro plant construction

Colombian hydro generator Epsa has secured two loans totaling 169 billion pesos (US$87.8 million) to finance construction of its 55-MW Cucuana hydropower plant in Colombia, wire services reported.

The loans come from local financial institution Banco de Occidente, reports indicate.

Epsa awarded contracts for the development of the project in September.

Local contracting firm Mincivil was awarded the 100 billion peso construction contract, while Andritz Hydro won the 20.3 billion peso design and management contract, wire services reported.

Medellin-based consultancy Sedic will supervise environmental, administrative and technical issues as part of a separate 6.44 billion peso deal.

Epsa is a subsidiary of Spain's Union Fenosa.

In other news, Impregilo has won a contract to build the El Quimbo hydroelectric power project in Colombia, the Italy-based construction and civil engineering firm announced.

The value of the order is approximately EUR 250 million (about US$340 million).
