Mobil Industrial Lubricants has introduced a new report covering the current status and potential of the UK marine energy industry. The company introduced the report at the 32nd annual RenewableUK conference and exhibition, held Nov. 2-4, 2010, in Glasgow, Scotland.
The report, titled "The UK's Marine Energy Industry: Leading the World, Preparing for the Future," was developed, in part, to increase awareness of the growing marine energy industry and the expanding role marine energy can play in the renewable energy mix.
The report, prepared by PennWell's HRW-Hydro Review Worldwide magazine for Mobil Industrial Lubricants, looks at where the industry is today, what technologies are under development and future opportunities and potential challenges for the sector. The report acknowledges the UK, and especially Scotland, as being among the world leaders in building the regulatory and financial environments to foster the development of wave and tidal energy devices. Also covered in the report is the key role that lubricant plays in supporting the development of these technologies so they can operate successfully in demanding environments.
"As we scan the future, in many areas, we expect the marine energy industry will develop, grow and become more cost competitive as technology develops over time," said Stuart Milne, cluster lubricants manager-UK, Ireland & Benelux, for ExxonMobil Lubricants & Petroleum Specialties. "ExxonMobil plans to work proactively with device manufacturers, entering into a research and development collaboration to explore the development of lubricant solutions to maximize the reliability and productivity of these devices once they are 'in the water.'"
The full report will be available for downloading from www.HydroWorld.com, starting Nov. 15, 2010.
