Marine hydro firm Aquamarine to study wave power potential in U.S.

A U.S. subsidiary of marine hydro firm Aquamarine Power has secured a grant to explore the potential of Oregon's coastline for electricity generation.

The funding of about $50,000 from Oregon Wave Energy Trust will pay for a feasibility study.

Potentially, Edinburgh-based Aquamarine could deploy its Oyster wave energy device off the state's coast. The technology is being tested in the sea off Orkney, Scotland, and a new version is due to be deployed next summer.

Aquamarine Power is among companies that have leased seabed test sites off Orkney and Pentland Firth from the Crown Estate.
