Brazil adds hydro plant, thermal plant to Reidi program

Brazil's mines and energy ministry has added a small hydro project and a thermal plant to the government's special infrastructure development incentives program, Reidi, wire services reported.

The 19-MW Cavernoso II small hydro project, located in the southern state of Parana, was included in the program. The plant is owned by local utility Copel.

The ministry also added the 50-MW Sao Fernando I thermal plant, located in the center-western state of Mato Grosso do Sul. The plant is owned by local power firm Sao Fernando Energia.

Reidi provides incentives including a five-year tax holiday on goods and services and is part of the government's growth acceleration plan known as PAC.

Recently, the government added two other small hydropower plants and a thermal plant to the Reidi program.

The 2-MW Mestre and 3.5-MW Santa Cecilia small hydro plants are located in Mato Grosso state. The 13-MW Eldorado thermal plant is located in the center-western state of Mato Grosso do Sul.
