Lesce hydropower plant in Croatia starts trial run

Croatia's newly-constructed Lesce hydro plant recently started its trial run, wire services reported.

The 42.29-MW hydroelectric power project, the first built in Croatia since it gained independence from former Yugoslavia in 1991, recently was inaugurated by Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor, the government reported.

The US$123.4 million power plant, located on the Dobra River, will produce 98 GWh of electricity per year, helping Croatia become independent in terms of energy by 2020 while boosting domestic economic activity, Kosor was quoted as saying.

In other news, construction has begun on Russia's Nizhnyaya Bureya hydropower plant, news services reported. The RusHydro hydropower plant will have four generating units with the total power output of 320 MW.
