Brazilian utility sector regulator Aneel has authorized commercial operations at one of the two generator units at the 19.4-MW Figueiropolis small hydropower plant, wire services reported.
In a regulatory filing, Aneel okayed operations at the generator unit 1 with 9.7 MW of installed capacity.
The hydropower plant is located in the center-western state of Mato Grosso. It is owned by local firm Companhia Hidroeletrica Figueiropolis.
In other news, Brazilian utility Copel will begin construction of its 19.5-MW Cavernoso II small hydro plant in January 2011, a spokesperson for the firm told wire services.
Copel will invest around 120 million reais (US$70 million) in the project, reports indicate.
