Alstom Hydro, RusHydro sign MOU for development of hydropower plants in Russia

Alstom Hydro has signed a memorandum of understanding with RusHydro, Russia's largest power generation company, to participate in the development of the Russian hydropower assets, Alstom Hydro announced.

The MOU includes a decision by both parties to consider possibilities of cooperation with respect to the reconstruction and refurbishment of several operating Russian hydropower plants, including pumped-storage plants, as well as optimization and maintenance.

Specifically, as a potential first case, Alstom and RusHydro have agreed to consider how they could cooperate on the modernization of the Kubanski cascade hydropower complex in southern Russia and the new pumped-storage plant (2 x 70 MW) at Zelenchuk.

In addition, Alstom and Rushydro are outlining ways for cooperation in hydropower research and development.

In other news, Alstom subsidiary Alstom Projects India Limited has won a contract worth about Rs 550 million (US$12 million) from developer Lanco Infratech Limited to equip a new hydropower plant in India's northern region, Alstom reported.

The 76-MW Phatabyung hydro project will be set up in the Uttarakhand region on the bank of Mandakini River. This is the second time Alstom has collaborated with Lanco Infratech since winning the Teesta VI hydro project in 2009.
