  • Sri Lanka small hydro project registered under Clean Development Mechanism

    The Adavikanda small hydropower project in Sri Lanka has been registered as a Clean Development Project under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, wire services reported.

    The hydro project has an installed capacity of 6.5 MW and was developed by Alternate Power Systems Ltd, reports indicate.

    Construction began in January 2008. The hydro project was commissioned in September 2009.

    Recently, a Bhutan hydro project supported by the Asian Development Bank and the governments of Austria and Japan was registered as the first cross-border initiative under the Clean Development Mechanism. The hydro project will enable Bhutan to export clean hydroelectric power to India.
