Salto hydro plant in Brazil launches test operations at second generator

Brazil-based infrastructure and energy services company Triunfo has launched test operations at the second generation unit at its 116-MW Salto hydropower plant, a spokesperson for the group told wire services.

The 58-MW unit went online earlier this month. The company will have 60 days to submit test results to utility sector regulator Aneel, Business News Americas reported.

The Salto hydro plant's first unit started commercial operations in May. The hydropower plant is located in the center-western state of Goias. Total investments in the project reached 642 million reais (US$366 million).

In other news, Brazil's 210-MW Serra do Facao hydropower plant is projected to come online within three months, the president of project developer Serra do Facao Energia consortium told wire services.

The Serra do Facao hydro project initially was planned to come online in October 2010.
