Irkutskenergo plans Ust-Ilimskaya hydro plant upgrade by 2014

Russian hydropower generator Irkutskenergo plans to invest about 1 billion rubles (US$32.7 million) in the upgrade of the Ust-Ilimskaya hydropower plant in the Irkutsk Region by 2014, wire services reported.

Irkutskenergo has started a long-term large-scale program to upgrade the hydropower plant, reports indicate. The program involves the replacement of old transformers, thyristor excitation systems and protection relays, according to reports.

The Ust-Ilimskaya hydropower plant has a capacity of 3,840 megawatts and an average annual output of 21.7 billion kilowatt-hours.

Irkutskenergo owns hydropower and thermal power plants, thermal power distribution networks, coal mines and transport companies.

In other news, twenty-four small hydropower plants could be built in Russia's Chelyabinsk Region by 2020, the press office of the regional economic development ministry reported.
