The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a $17.86 million contract to Ames Construction Inc. to build main canal intake diversion fish protection at Lower Yellowstone Diversion Dam on the Yellowstone River in Montana.
The agency sought information in February from businesses potentially qualified to perform the work. The Corps' Omaha District also requested information in December 2009 on fish screens that could be utilized to prevent endangered pallid sturgeon from being diverted to an irrigation canal by the Lower Yellowstone Diversion Dam.
Work is to involve construction of new headworks for fish screens and sluice gates, including about 12 separate fish screens and gates, a 20-foot-tall by 800-foot-long cofferdam and a new canal.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recently awarded a contract to Triad Mechanical Inc. to replace traveling screens at the 980-MW McNary dam and hydro project on the Columbia River in Oregon.
The contract, worth $769,807, is for supply and installation of two 10-foot-wide by 74-foot-long traveling screens to replace Rex-style traveling screens on McNary's Oregon shore fish ladder auxiliary water supply intake structure.
