Construction of 24 small hydropower plants possible in Russia

Twenty-four small hydropower plants could be built in Russia's Chelyabinsk Region by 2020, the press office of the regional economic development ministry reported.

The project was submitted for approval to regional Governor Mikhail Yurevich, who tasked municipal governments to start looking for investors. The proposed small hydropower plants are projected to annually produce up to 50 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electric power, which is to improve power supplies to the region's remote areas.

All necessary technical documents and business plans have been prepared for the construction of five hydropower plants in the region, reports indicate.
