Oriental Energy plans small hydropower projects in Philippines

Oriental Energy and Power Generation Corp. recently received four new renewable energy service contracts from the Department of Energy for developing small hydro projects.

Oriental Energy is set to develop five hydro projects with a combined generation capacity of 55 megawatts, regional media reported.

These service contracts include the 15-MW Culaman hydro project and contracts for projects along the Odiongan River, media reports indicate. Earlier, Oriental Energy won the service contract to develop the 18-MW Timbaban River mini-hydropower plant.

The Philippine Department of Energy recently signed US$1.5 billion worth of renewable energy contracts, signifying continued confidence in the emerging renewables industry.
