Indian hydropower generator Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam, Ltd. plans to increase its power capacity from 1,500 megawatts to 6,500 megawatts over the next five years through investments in new hydropower projects, hydro project upgrades and other renewable energy projects.
An initial public offering is expected shortly to raise funds for the planned expansion, wire services reported.
The expansion plan includes the 412-MW Rampur project, the 775-MW Luhri and the 1,020-MW Khab project, all in Himachal Pradesh. The company is also involved in the 252-MW Devsari project, 45-MW Jakhol Sankri project and the 59-MW Naitwar Mori hydroelectric project.
SJVN recently decided to upgrade the generating capacity of the 40-MW Dhaula Sid hydro project it is developing, the company reported. The company will boost the capacity of the project to 66 megawatts.
SJVN is also involved in hydro projects in Bhutan and Nepal. According to wire reports, the company also plans to diversify into solar and wind power this year.
SJVN is a joint venture entity between the Government of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh.
