Pumped-storage hydro is session topic at Renewable Energy World Conference and Expo North America 2010

Hydro industry leaders will explore new developments, challenges and opportunities for pumped-storage hydropower as part of a session focusing on pumped-storage hydro during the Renewable Energy World Conference & Expo North America 2010 in Austin.

The Renewable Energy World Conference & Expo North America 2010 is planned for Feb. 23-25 at the Austin Convention Center.

The pumped-storage hydropower session, “Opportunities for Pumped Hydro Storage: Supporting Renewable Energy Goals,” is part of the event’s Hydro Track.

Panelists will explore proposed new projects, drivers behind development and international experience.

Edward Abrams, deputy director for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s Division of Hydropower Licensing, plans to share insight into many FERC licensing issues regarding pumped-storage hydropower as well as observations regarding the challenges to new pumped-storage projects. Panelists will discuss examples of development in the United States and beyond and will participate in a discussion with the audience about the challenges of pumped-storage hydro development and what is being done to address those challenges.

Hydro Track sessions also are planned for small hydro and other aspects of the hydropower industry.

The REW conference and expo will feature insightful discussions and presentations during technical sessions related to technology, markets, business strategies and policy covering the wind, solar, biomass, hydro, geothermal, ocean/tidal/wave, bio-power, bio-fuels hydrogen and energy sectors.

Nearly 4,000 renewable energy professionals attended Renewable Energy World Conference & Expo North America 2009.
