A Buffalo, N.Y., company has been awarded a $16.6 million contract to build a new warehouse and office complex for the Niagara Power Project, the New York Power Authority announced.
The Niagara hydro project is the biggest electricity producer in New York State, generating 2,441 MW.
SLR Contracting & Service Company Inc. was the low bidder of seven companies submitting proposals for the project.
The complex, expected to be completed by July 2011, will be built along Witmer Road in the towns of Lewiston and Niagara.
The three-story building also will house an emergency response area for backup functions to support the Niagara hydroelectric project and will replace an existing warehouse used by the New York Power Authority.
SLR Contracting & Service Company Inc. is a full service general construction company specializing in all facets of commercial construction including renovation projects and new construction as well as construction management and design build work.
In approving the contract for SLR, the authority trustees authorized capital expenditures of $23.5 million for the overall project.
Besides construction, it includes funding for engineering, design and permits, purchase of equipment and furniture, and the moving of computer and communications equipment from the present warehouse, which will be replaced by the new facility.
