Renewable Energy World announces awards finalists, names hydro project among top for 2009

RenewableEnergyWorld.com, a leading renewable energy news source, announced that a hydrokinetic turbine project is among the finalists for the 2009 Excellence in Renewable Energy Awards.

Among the finalists for the “Project of the Year” category is a 250-KW project developed by Houston-based Hydro Green Energy, LLC.

One unit of the project, located at a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dam in Hastings, Minn., recently took part in the first and only direct fish survival study performed on a hydrokinetic turbine. (HydroWorld 1/7/10)

The Excellence in Renewable Energy Awards recognize the most innovative technologies, projects and people within the renewable energy industries.

There are four categories on which to vote, and hydropower is represented in at least one category in addition to “Project of the Year.”

Now, readers have the chance to pick their favorite nominee for the Reader's Choice Award.

The award winners will be announced and recognized at the Renewable Energy World North America Conference and Expo, which takes place in Austin, Texas, Feb. 23-25, 2010.

The event is expected to attract more than 5000 renewable energy industry professionals and more than 300 exhibitors to take part in the largest all-renewable conference and exhibition in the world, with conference sessions covering issues related to wind, solar, biomass, hydroelectricity, geothermal and hydrogen technologies, projects and finance.

Online voting for the Reader's Choice Award will be open until January 31. Votes can be cast at the Awards website:http://awards.renewableenergyworld.com

• First Wind's 200-MW Milford Wind Corridor
