The assistant secretary of the Army (Civil Works) will deliver the keynote speech at the upcoming 2010 National Hydropower Association Annual Conference in Washington, D.C.
The conference, “Hydro in the New Energy Revolution: Innovate. Generate. Legislate.,” is scheduled for April 26-28 at the Capital Hilton Hotel.
The event will bring together hydro industry leaders, state and federal regulatory officials and key legislative staff to discuss technology, policy and future development options for the hydropower sector.
The keynote speaker is Jo-Ellen Darcy, assistant secretary of the Army (Civil Works), who establishes policy direction and provides supervision of the Department of the Army functions relating to all aspects of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Civil Works program.
On Aug. 11, 2009, President Barack Obama appointed Darcy as assistant secretary of the Army (Civil Works) following confirmation by the Senate.
Prior to her appointment, Jo-Ellen Darcy was the senior environmental advisor to the Senate Finance Committee, responsible for environment, conservation and energy issues.
Previously, she was senior policy advisor to the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, concentrating on water resource and conservation issues involving the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service.
At the start of the 107th Congress, Darcy was the deputy staff director for the EPW Committee.
A wide range of activities, meetings and sessions are planned for the NHA conference, covering many aspects of the hydropower industry. Subjects range from legislative and regulatory issues to new technologies, small hydro, pumped-storage hydro, hydropower’s role in job creation and an array of other topics.
