The Western Australia government awarded a US$40 million contract for upgrades to the 70-year-old Wellington Dam as part of an ongoing dam remedial works program, the government reported.
The contract was awarded to an alliance that includes Leighton Contractors, AECOM, Hydro Tasmania and Structural Systems Limited.
As part of the upgrades to Wellington Dam, a series of high-tensile steel cables will be installed vertically through the wall and into bedrock to enhance the dam’s stability.
The storage capacity, height and design of the dam will remain mostly unchanged.
The work is expected to take about two years to complete.
