U.S. names Riverside to help deploy Corps Water Management System

The Corps of Engineers has named Riverside, a science, engineering, and information technology consulting company, to work on accelerated deployment of the Corps Water Management System.

With funding from the economic stimulus package passed by Congress in February (HydroWorld 2/24/09), the Corps' Hydrologic Engineering Center (HEC) chose Riverside, which specializes in water resources and environmental decision support systems.

HEC supports Corps field offices in their water resources management responsibilities by increasing the Corps' technical capability in hydrologic and hydraulic engineering. It also provides leadership in improving analytical methods for water resources planning and management.

The Corps Water Management System consists of current HEC computer models consolidated into a real-time decision support system that will enhance water management for critical Corps watersheds.

In an 18-month project, Riverside is to lead the development, testing, and deployment with HEC staff to install the CWMS at Corps field offices in Seattle; Norfolk, Va.; and Cincinnati. CWMS is to help the offices make better-informed decisions for reservoir management and water control systems.

"A recognized benefit of this project, and a goal of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, is to create and maintain jobs for U.S. citizens," Riverside said July 6, 2009. "As a result of Riverside's role in this project as well as other projects won this year, Riverside has experienced a 10 percent increase in staff since the beginning of 2009."

A majority of the work is to be performed by engineers in Riverside's Fort Collins, Colo., office.
