Alstom Hydro announced June 9, 2009, that its generating equipment contract for Ecuador’s 26.8-MW Ocana hydroelectric project is valued at nearly 9 million euros (US$12.6 million).
Ecuador utility Empresa Generadora del Austro S.A. (ElecAustro) signed the contract with Alstom Hydro Espana SL in February. (HydroWorld 2/18/09)
Alstom Hydro said it is to supply two 13.4-MW vertical Pelton turbine-generators, governors, safety valves, excitation and protection systems, and spare parts to the project being built in Ecuador’s Canar Province. Alstom’s facilities in Barcelona and Bilbao, Spain, are to handle engineering and manufacturing of equipment for delivery over two years.
Alstom Hydro President Philippe Cochet said the contract underlines the company’s presence in Latin America and strengthens the position of its manufacturing facilities in Spain. He noted Alstom Hydro is supplying two generators as part of a consortium that is equipping the 162.6-MW Mazar hydro project in Ecuador. (HydroWorld 1/18/07)
ElecAustro signed a contract in January with Siemens S.A. Ecuador for supply of transformers, substation, and a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system for Ocana. In March, it signed a contract with Sevilla y Martinez Ingenieros C.A. (Semaica) to construct civil works, pressure pipes, and related equipment for Ocana. (HydroWorld 3/31/09)
