Senior Manager Cyprian Chitundu, of Zesco Generation Development, said March 24 that rehabilitation of Kafue Gorge, resulting in the 90-MW capacity increase, was completed March 1.
A team of senior officials from the Ministry of Finance and National Planning, the Ministry of Energy and Water Development, and Zesco visited the projects in May 2008. At that time, they found a US$44 million shortfall in needed funds for the Power Rehabilitation Project and pledged to make the resources available.
Zambia Electricity Supply Corp. (Zesco) reports rehabilitation and uprating have been completed at the 990-MW Kafue Gorge hydroelectric project on Zambia's Kafue River.
The government of Zambia last year allotted US$49 million to Zesco to speed up rehabilitation of then-900-MW Kafue Gorge and 600-MW Kariba North Bank hydroelectric projects.
