  • Dresden conference to focus on waterpower, climate change

    The Annual Conference on Hydraulic Engineering is to focus in 2009 on Waterpower and Climate Change. The conference is set for March 12-13 at Dresden's International Congress Center.

    Conference delegates are to discuss waterpower development and the influence of climate change with attention to effects of climate and environmental changes on waterpower, strategies and control of hydropower systems, legal framework for waterpower utilization, and flow simulation and special materials for hydropower stations. Specific sessions also are planned in areas such as small hydropower, ocean energy, and improvement of dam safety and flood control.

    Technical sessions will be presented in German and English with simultaneous translation provided.

    An exhibition of suppliers, contractors, consultants, institutions, and other entities will be presented in conjunction with the conference.

    On March 13, delegates may participate in a technical tour of the 120-MW Niederwartha pumped-storage project on the Elbe River.
