    • 11/19/2009 -- Brazil delays Belo Monte auction
      An auction for the 11,200-MW Belo Monte hydroelectric project will be delayed once again amid criticism of the project’s environmental impact, according to Reuters.
    • 11/19/2009 -- Cavico JV to build hydroelctric project in Vietnam
      Cavico Corp. and its joint venture partners have won a 540 billion dong (US$30.2 million) contract from VRG-Dak Nong to build the 28.4-MW Dak Sin hydroelectric project on the Dong Nai River in Vietnam.
    • 11/19/2009 -- Ethiopia to build 10 hydroelectric projects
      The government of Ethiopia said it will build 10 hydroelectric projects over the next decade at a cost of US$10 billion, according to Nazret.com, an online news service in Ethiopia.
    • 11/19/2009 -- HydroVolts wins national sustainability award
      Seattle-based HydroVolts, a developer of in-stream hydrokinetic turbines, won the National Sustainability Award at this year’s Cleantech Open (CTO), a business competition for startup companies specializing in clean technologies.

      Ocean Power Technologies (OPT) received a A$66.5 million (US$61 million) grant from the Australian government to build a 19-MW wave power project off the coast of Victoria, Australia.

      Nova Scotia Power and its tidal technology partner OpenHydro have successfully deployed the first commercial scale in-stream tidal turbine in the Bay of Fundy.

      German utility RWE has signed a memorandum of understanding with Serbian utility JP Elektroprivreda Srbije and the Serbian government to build up to 3,000 MW of hydropower capacity in Serbia.

      Ocean Power Technologies Inc. (OPT) has appointed Angus Norman chief executive of Ocean Power Technologies Ltd.

      Ethiopia’s 300-MW Tekeze hydroelectric project, the largest public works project in Ethiopia’s history, is complete, said Colorado-based MWH, the engineering and construction firm that oversaw the design and construction.
    • 11/16/2009 -- Regulators approve small hydro project in Chile
      Regulators in Chile have approved an environmental impact statement for the construction of a 7.6 MW hydroelectric project in southern Chile.
