Swedish firm wins turbine rehab contract for 440-MW Letsi

Finshyttan Hydro Power AB has received an order from Andritz Hydro Inepar AB for renovation and conversion of a hydro turbine at the 440-MW Letsi hydroelectric project on Sweden's Lilla Lule River.

Finshyttan's parent, Morphic Technologies of Sweden, said Finshyttan refurbished Unit 1 of the three-unit plant in 2007 and now is commissioned to overhaul Unit 2 for project owner Vattenfall AB.

The renovation, which includes wing servomotors, turbine axles, and other turbine components, is to be performed from October 2008 through mid-January 2009.

Letsi began operation in 1967 about 16 kilometers upstream from the Lilla Lule's confluence with the Stora Lule River. It utilizes the hydraulic head between Lake Valjates and the 300-MW Porsi project.

In April, Finshyttan received orders from then-GE Hydro Inepar AB to renovate the 50-MW Stensele and 170-MW Hojum hydroelectric projects, also owned by Vattenfall in Sweden. (HNN 4/22/08)
